How Heat Pumps Operate
Hot water heat pumps function by drawing heat from the surrounding air and transferring it to the water stored in the tank. This process is essentially the reverse of how a refrigerator operates. Inside the heat pump, a refrigerant evaporates at low temperatures, absorbing heat from the air. The resulting vapor is then compressed, which increases its temperature, and this heat is subsequently transferred to the water.
